MRS. REBECCA DEHART DIED NOVEMBER 27, 1916 IN EARLHAM

Mrs. Rebecca DeHart, was born in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, Feb. 5, 1842, where she lived with her parents until 1865 when she was united in marriage to Thomas DeHart at which time they came to Madison County, Iowa and resided there three years when they moved on to what is now called the old DeHart farm near Earlham.

Brother and Sister DeHart lived happily together until 10 years ago the tie was broken by the cruel hand of death and the loving husband and father was called home to be with God. Mother DeHart was left to the care of her son Albert, the only child who tenderly and carefully looked after her needs as could be expected of any son who was brought up in a Christian home like his. Mother DeHart answered her call on the morning of the 27th of November, 1916 at the ripe age of 74 years, 9 months, 22 days. She was converted and joined the church of the United Brethren in Christ at the Lormier school house. In later years her membership was moved to the McKibben school house and afterwards transferred to the Hickory Grove church, where she remained as a consistent member until God called her to the Church Triumbbant.

There is a vacant place in the home that earth can never fill. But let us remember that our loss here is Heaven's gain. The church has sustained a loss. The neighborhood a neighbor and friend. But thanks be unto God, we have been left a memory and an influence that will live on and inspire our lives until God will have called us thence.

She leaves to mourn her death one son, Albert Dollurt, and one grandson Bruce of near Earlham, one sister, Mrs. Ellie Mills near Elliott, Montgomery County, Iowa and a host of friends. We are sure we can say of Sister DeHart as it was said of Paul of old, "I have fought a good fight, I have kept the faith, I have finished my course, henceforth there is a crown of life laid up for me and not for use only, but for all who love his appearing."

The last few weeks of her afflictions were spent pleading with God to take her home to be with Him where suffering will be ended. Funeral services were conducted by Reverend Hulse at the DeHart home November 29, 1916 with a large attendance of friends and relatives, and the remains were laid to rest in the McKibben cemetery. (Rev. Hulse)
