Delores Gamble, 91, of St. Charles, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, October 4th, 2023 while under hospice care at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola, Iowa. A private Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be at the St. Charles Cemetery in St. Charles, Iowa.

Delores Joan Gamble, daughter of Cleo and Gladys (Hays) Gamble was born on January 18, 1932 in Madison County, Iowa. Delores graduated from the St. Charles High School and then went on for training at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa where she became a nursing aide. She then worked at Mercy where she was always compassionate about caring for her patients. She later took a position with the Johnston Nursing Home in St. Charles. Delores worked alongside Mrs. Johnston for many, many years where again she provided the same loving care to their residents.

After Mrs. Johnston retired and sold her home, Delores continued to provide private in-home-care for a number of years in the Des Moines area, until retiring. She enjoyed singing along with her musical family and sharing great times with her many siblings, nieces and nephews. She resided in her hometown of St. Charles, Iowa throughout her life and she loved being near her family. Delores was a hard worker - if she wasn’t caretaking, she was cleaning or baking her favorite “chocolate cake” or “chocolate” anything!! She was a cancer survivor and always shared kindness and compassion for others. At the end of each visit she would always offer her loved ones a “Hug” and an “I Love You”.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Cleo and Gladys Gamble; siblings, Edythe Johnston, Helen Howard, Robert Gamble, Wilbur Gamble, John Gamble, Dorothy Neal, Jim Gamble, Donnie Gamble and Raymond Gamble; and in-laws Phil Johnston, Robert Howard, Glen Seward, Tom Reeves and Elizabeth Gamble.

She is survived by sisters, Marge Seward of Nampa, Idaho, Jeanne (Jerold) White of Norwalk, Iowa and Patricia Reeves of Springfield, Missouri; sister-in-laws, Jeanie Gamble of St. Charles, Iowa, Gloria (Bill) Stewart of Urbandale, Iowa, Judy Gamble of Kingston, Oklahoma and Jan Gamble of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Clyde Neal and half-brothers and sisters, Rick Gamble, Greg Gamble, Scott Gamble, Shelia Langdon and Cindy Gerst.

She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews, along with many other family members and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to share life with her!

In lieu of flowers, memorial condolences and donations in memory of Delores may be directed to the family in care of her niece, Sharry Hanna at 210 N. Walnut St. in St. Charles, IA 50240 for a fitting tribute to be decided at a later date. Condolences may also be left on the caldwellparrish.com website.
