Patrick L. King, 87, of Prole, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, October 15, 2023 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset with a vigil service beginning at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 16 at the church with burial to follow in the St. Patrick Irish Settlement Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a future designation.

Patrick Louis King, the oldest of thirteen, was born in a log cabin in Warren County, Iowa on October 4, 1936, the son of Louis and Anna (McKinney) King. He graduated high school and was united in marriage to Barbara Houlette on February 14, 1958 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset.

Pat spent most of his lifetime near Valley Junction in Des Moines, Iowa and lived in Warren County since 1990. He worked for many years as a straddle carrier operator for John Deere. Pat enjoyed racing and raced IMCA stock cars and drove in mini hot rod tractor pulls. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Winterset and was a member of Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.

He is survived by his children, Mike (Laura) King, Cheryl King, and Steve King; siblings, Jerry (Bev) King, Leo King (Barb Brady), Luella Fairholm, Carolyn (Lyle) Rothfus, Kathleen (Keith) Churchill, Barbara Birdsell, Dorothy (Rod) Wedemeyer, Nancy (Gene) Stephenson, Rita Drysdale, and Juanita Beeler; grandchildren, Sean King and Patrick King; and great-grandchild, Lily King.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; siblings, Peggy Barker, and Thomas King; and 4 brothers-in-law.
