September 2023Micki Utsler, 80, of Winterset, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.
Michelle Jo Utsler, was born in Winterset, Iowa on February 27, 1943, the daughter of Kenneth and Bibianne (Hazlitt) Weldon. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1961 and attended the University of Iowa. On November 27, 1963, Micki married Larry Utsler in Winterset. The family expanded over the years to include three wonderful children: Steve, Stephanie, and Corey. Micki's devotion to her family knew no bounds, and her role as a mother was one of unwavering love and support.
Micki worked as a realtor for Iowa Realty. She served as the Madison County Recorder for 16 years and took immense pride in her work and the opportunity to contribute to her community. Micki's commitment extended to her volunteer work as well. She gave her time to the Covered Bridge Festival, the John Wayne Birthplace Museum, the Optimist Club, the Alumni Association, and planning class reunions.
Micki was not only a professional and a community servant but also an avid golfer. She participated in couples' tournaments and shared her love for the sport with friends and family. Gardening was another of her passions, always dedicated to her flowers and landscaping. She loved to read, and always found time to read a good book.
Micki had a zest for life that carried her to various corners of the world. She found joy in traveling and wintering in Arkansas and Florida. Her heart belonged to the sun, beach, and islands. Above all, Micki cherished the time spent with her friends and family. Her radiant smile and warm heart lit up every room she entered, and her love for her family was immeasurable.
Micki is survived by her loving husband, Larry Utsler. She leaves behind her son, Steve (Angie) Utsler and their children, Max and Jack; Stephanie’s children, Madison, Cade, and Cael; and her son, Corey (Valerie) Utsler and their children, Zachary and Megan.
Micki Utsler was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Bibianne Weldon, her beloved daughter, Stephanie, and her brothers, Mike Weldon and Rick Weldon.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 8, 2023 at the New Bridge Church in Winterset, with a service following at 10:30 a.m. The family will continue to greet friends at a luncheon following the funeral service. A private burial will take place in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the John Wayne Birthplace Museum.
