Paul R. "Chip" Chesnut

Paul R. "Chip" Chesnut, son of Paul Foster Chesnut, MD and Anjean Nazette Chesnut was born July 10, 1945 in Des Moines, Iowa and passed from this life Monday, August 21, 2023 at his home in Osceola, Iowa at 78 years of age.

Paul received his education at Winterset High School graduating with the class of 1963. He later attended Buena Vista University where he studied social work and psychology. It was there that Paul began his career in fire service. He worked as a fireman at Storm Lake while attending college at Buena Vista and ran the gear truck to any calls and provided medic response and CPR if needed. Soon after graduating from Buena Vista, he was drafted and served his country during the Vietnam Conflict where he served two tours of duty.

Upon returning home from the service he came back to Iowa and was united in marriage to Roberta Jean "Jeanne" Hughes Chesnut on December 27, 1970 in Neligh, Nebraska and four children blessed this union. After their marriage, Paul decided that he wanted to return to school and he attended Iowa State University in Ames, IA and graduated in 1972 with his teaching degree.

Following his time at Iowa State, Paul and Jeanne moved to Osceola where he was a teacher at Clarke's North Elementary, Weldon, and East Elementary for over thirty years. He also operated R & S snow removal for many years. He was a member of the Osceola Volunteer Fire Department since 1972 where he served in many capacities over the years. Paul was passionate about being a fire instructor at the Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau for many years, educating hundreds of fireman during the summer and winter months for different fire schools. He was also a member of the Osceola Gun Club, and MIFWIC hunting group.

Those relatives who preceded Paul in death were his father, Paul Foster Chesnut, MD, mother, Anjean Chesnut, son, Paul Mark Chesnut, son, Douglas Larsen Chesnut, father-in-law, Doug Hughes, sister, Sally Chesnut Oldham, aunt, Catherine DeCook, uncle, Richard Nazette, nephew, Ronnie Nazette, brother-in-law, Mark Hughes.

Paul leaves to cherish his memory; wife, Jeanne Chesnut of Osceola, son, Jack (Kylene) Chesnut of Osceola, son, Joe (Brittany) Chesnut of Chariton, grandchildren, Kenley, Bennett, and Camille Chesnut of Osceola; mother-in-law, Marcella Hughes of Neligh, NE; brother in law, David Oldham of Winterset; niece, Courtney (Rob) Rose of Urbandale; nephew, Zachary Oldham of Boise, ID as well as other relatives and many many friends.

Services will be held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Saturday August 26, 2023 at 10:00 am with Amy Johnson and Pastor Chuck DeVos officiating and the family will greet friends from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, August 25, 2023 at Kale Funeral Home.

If you are unable to attend the service in person, a live stream will be available at kalefuneralhome.com on Paul's tribute wall beginning at 10:00 am, Saturday.

Interment will immediately follow services at Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola.
