Janice Feldman, 89, of Van Meter, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023 at her home.
Jan was born on January 11, 1934 to Patrick and Myrtle (Seiler) Cline in Winterset, Iowa. She was a graduate of Winterset High School in 1952. Jan married Ralph Feldman on November 12, 1952 in Winterset. To this union, four children were born, Sandra, Debra, Ronald and Richard. Jan stayed at home raising her 4 children, then went to work at Hy-Vee and worked in the bakery department. She loved getting visits from friends and family, and loved to give out a free cookie to her guests at the store.
Jan loved to tend to her flowers and garden beds. Every year she had an immaculate garden and canned many vegetables. Taking her kids mushroom hunting was always so special to her as it was a tradition passed down from her parents. She was an avid bingo player and loved to go play at the Van Meter American Legion Hall. She frequented so often she had a reserved seat in the front row. Jan enjoyed sewing, quilting and reading. She had many collectibles, including thimbles and small glass figures.
Jan liked to bake sugar cookies and had a large collection of cookie cutters to make many fun shapes of cookies. She was proud to be a member of the Van Meter community. She and Ralph would sit on the front porch and wave at passing cars. Many people drove by just to wave and say hello. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jan is survived by children, Debra (Donald) Jensen of Keokuk, Ronald Feldman of Earlham, and Richard Feldman of West Des Moines; brother, Murray Cline; sister, Jeanne Reick; 5 grandchildren, Jermey, Ryan, Trista, Tyler, and Angie; and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; daughter Sandra Feldman; brothers, Ralph Cline, Glenn Cline, and Gail Cline; and sisters, Norma Junkin, and Wilma Jordan.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel. Funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 11, 2023 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel. Burial will follow in the Van Meter Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be used for a memorial at a later date. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.caldwellparrish.com.
