Funeral Services Held Sunday For Retired Mine Blacksmith.
William Turnquist, retired mine blacksmith, died in his home at 605 E. Court avenue, Thursday night, following a lingering illness. He was 75 years of age.
Mr. Turnquist was born in Stesnas, Sweden, January 28, 1866, the son of Peter and Inga Turnquist. He immigrated to this country when 19 years of age and became a naturalized citizen October 31, 1880. He attended Drake University in Des Moines studying English.
On October 17, 1900 he was united in marriage to Roxie Ann Shawhan and they were the parents of seven children all of whom survive. He was employed by the Des Moines Ice and Fuel Company for 33 years from which he retired and then made his home in Winterset.
Besides his wife he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Mildred Rasmussan of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Mrs. Ruth Miller of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Oleta Allen and Mrs. Ireta Hogbin of Winterset; three sons, Leland and Paul of Kansas City, Missouri, and William, Jr. of Winterset; also nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Anderson’s funeral home Sunday afternoon at two o’clock with the Rev. L. F. Davis officiating. Burial was made in the cemetery at Bondurant, Iowa.
