Funeral services for Daisy Belle Jacobs, 95, of St. Charles, Iowa, who passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023, will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Cremation will follow services.

Daisy Belle (Shutt) Jacobs, daughter of Walter Jefferson and Joanna Elvria (Daniel) Shutt, born on May 31, 1928, at their home in St. Charles, Iowa. Daisy passed June 29, 2023, at Norwalk Nursing and Rehab, at the age of 95.

Daisy attended school in both St. Charles and St. Marys, graduating from St. Charles in 1945. When Daisy was in 3rd grade, she was the only student to attend class every day. The teacher awarded her with a bird book, which is when her love for reading began. Her classmates always sang the song “Daisy Bell,” which embarrassed Daisy.

She and Leonard Dale Jacobs were married May 22, 1948. Leonard passed February 21, 2001. Together they had 5 children, Susan, Doyle, Mike, Lucinda, and Joanne, and raised them at their family farm in St. Charles.

Daisy had various after school and summer jobs for Grace Laird and Ruth Johnson. She traveled to Chicago for 3 months on the train for her work with Western Union. Daisy also had an egg route in the Des Moines area, as well as dressing and cleaning turkeys. She and Erma Heckman opened and ran a ceramics business, the pouring and molds were kept at her home and Erma had the kiln and classes. Retired in 1990 from the Department of Transportation, Daisy was also a farm wife. One time while helping sow oats with her father-in-law, he told her the next time the seeder needed to be filled, NOT to stop on a hill!

Daisy was a member of the Warren County Cattlemen’s Association, Hereford Association, and started a neighborhood card club. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, ceramics, painting and playing cards. She also taught her grandkids how to sew and helped them with their quilt blocks for various quilt block contests.

Daisy is known for her chocolate cake, famous peanut brittle, perfectly timed one-liners, and always making people smile. She enjoyed watching her grandkids participate in school activities, sporting events, and showing Herford cattle at the Warren County Fair.

Daisy is survived by her children, Doyle (Lori) Jacobs, Mike Jacobs, and Joanne (Norm) Rockey; grandchildren, Lindsay (Anthony) Britton, Jessica Jacobs, Jake (Cara) Rockey, Chantelle (Blayne Fitzsimmons) Lorton, Tom (Amy) Hall, Jessica (Dustin) Montague, Courtney (Jeff) Mascher; great-grandchildren, Daisy Lorton, Gatlin Lorton, Maeve Rockey, Ashlynn Montague, Dierk Montague, Raelynn Montague, Skyler Mascher, Macy Mascher, Paysley Mascher and Aidyn Fitzsimmons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Jacobs; parents Walter and Joanna Shutt; daughters, Susan Jacobs and Lucinda Calvert; son-in-law, Dave Calvert; and brothers, Doyle Shutt and Donald Shutt.

Daisy’s family would like to say a special thank you to Norwalk Nursing and Rehab and her care team at SunCrest Hospice.

The Family of Daisy Jacobs would like to invite all family and friends to join them for a luncheon and time of fellowship at the Church Hall in St. Marys following the funeral services.
