W. F. Clampitt was born in Stolks county, North Carolina, Feb. 8, 1827 and came with his parents to Lawrence county, Indiana, Sept. 1829, living there until his marriage, which occurred March 8, 1849. In the fall of 1850 they moved to Illinois, where they lived six years and again moved to Madison county, Iowa in 1856. His wife died there.
In 1862 he was married and moved to Lucas county. Here his wife died April 18, 1890. On May 31, 1891 he was married the third time at Russell, Iowa, and leaves a wife to mourn his loss.
Mr. Clampitt joined the Christian church and was baptized in 1876, and so lived that he said he was ready to go when called, saying “The Lord’s will not mine be done”. After suffering for several years he died Sunday morning, Jan. 8, 1904.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon and interment made at the Russell cemetery.
