Georganne Featherstone

Georganne Featherstone, a former resident of Winterset, Iowa, passed away on May 9, 2023 in Creston, Iowa.

Georganne was born on February 4, 1937 in Colorado Springs to George and Bernadine Freeto. She is survived by her sister Betty Walker, of Chicago IL. Preceding her in death were 2 brothers, Douglas and William; and two grandchildren, Jennifer Laubhan and Daniel Black.

At the age of 18, Georganne married a GI, Gilbert Crooks. To this union, 3 children were born, Karen Stichter (Winterset), Sherrie Mainwayring (Michigan), and a sister, Debbie (deceased).

Georganne worked for the phone company for most of her life, taking a break to raise her children in Michigan, then continued with the phone company until her retirement.

Family was most important to Georganne, and she took great pride in making handmade gifts for holidays and birthdays. She also was an avid reader, and in addition to her crafts, she always gifted books, knowing that reading was very important to keep the mind fresh. One of her favorite things to do was The New York Times crossword puzzle, always in pen. Georganne was also an amazing cook.

In her younger years, she loved the theater, acting in local theater groups. She also had a deep love for music, teaching piano to children. Her music love ranged from classical and instrumental to current musicians like Bob Seger.

Later in life, she married Drew Featherstone (deceased) and moved to Winterset.

She is survived by her daughters, Sherrie and Karen, grandchildren, Adam Stichter of Lorimor, Emily Stichter of Winterset, and 5 great grandchildren, Farrah, Madilyn, Blythe, Ellie, and Chase.

Georganne will be buried at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Van Meter, Ia. Any memorials may be directed to the Winterset Public Library or the ASPCA.
