OBITUARY – Henry E. Gottenby

Henry Eugene Gottenby, son of John K. and Grace Gottenby, was born in Illinois, May 26, 1873 and died, Feb. 25, 1939 at Creston, at the age of 65 years, 8 months and 29 days.

When a small boy he came with his parents to a farm near Dayton, Webster county, Iowa. A few years later they moved to a farm southwest of Macksburg where he spent the greater part of his life, having moved to Creston last fall.

He was married to Dora Davenport of Macksburg, Oct. 20, 1897. To this union were born eight children, seven of whom survive their father. He was again married to Grace Holiday of Macksburg who survives him. He had been a member of the Fraternal Order of Odd Fellows of Macksburg for many years.

The surviving relatives are: his first and second wives, and the children, Clifford of Mountain View, Ark.; Nellie Gilbert of Creston; Frank, Everett and Irene of Kansas City, Mo.; Walter of Linnwood, Calif.; and Eva Curts of Red Oak; three step-children, Frank Holiday of Creston, Bennie Holiday of Winterset and Lloyd Holiday of Macksburg; two sisters, Nellie Rowe of Macksburg and Lonnie Corey of Fairfield; 15 grandchildren and three step-grandchildren, in addition to a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, March 2, at the Methodist church in Macksburg, conducted by the Rev. M. D. Summerbell. Burial was made in the Moon cemetery.
