Obituary – Albert Franklin Foster

Albert Franklin Foster, second son of Margaret Nathaniel Foster, was born August 27, 1854, at Muscatine, Iowa, and passed away at his home in Great Bend, Kansas, February 5, at eight o’clock a.m., after a two-day illness of uremic poisoning, at the age of 82 years.

At the age of five he moved with his parents to Madison county, where he grew to manhood. In the spring of 1887 he moved to Kansas and lived on a farm near Albert, Kansas until the year of 1893, then moved to a farm nine miles northwest of Great Bend, where Mr. Foster farmed in his active life and made a success of his work.

In September 1910, he bought a home in Great Bend so that his children could have the advantages of the Great Bend schools. In September 1936 he decided to enjoy his best things in life so he purchased his present home in which they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary with all the children present.

He was united in marriage to Eva M. Travis, October 19, 1881. Mr. and Mrs. Foster enjoyed a happy home together. Six children were born to this union. Vernon Guy, their eldest son, preceded him in death March 23, 1900. Also one brother and two half sisters.

Mr. Foster lived in Kansas 50 years this March. He was one of those early pioneers who, with his wife, withstood the hardships of the early days. He was scrupulously honest in his business dealings and taught his children never to incur debt.

He was converted when a young man, and after moving to Kansas, joined the Albert Methodist church, later transferring his membership to the Methodist church of Great Bend.

He leaves his wife, and children: Thomas E. Foster, Lyle T. Foster, and Mrs. Gladys Church of Great Bend; Everett R. Foster of Sublette: and Mrs. Vida Renfro of Hugoton, and eight grandchildren. Mrs. C. J. Robinson of Peru, and Mrs. Mack Robinson of Winterset, are sisters.
