Wednesday, May 10, 2023Dorothy Weller, age 104, passed away on May 1, 2023, at her home in Earlham. She was born Jan. 14, 1919, in rural Saline County, Neb., on a small family farm. Her parents were Mary and Pat Ridpath. She attended school at Western, Nebraska, and the University of Nebraska.
Dorothy served with the Women Reserves of the US Marine Corps during World War II and was honorably discharged when the war ended.
She married Ralph Weller on June 19, 1949. They had two children, Ralph and Patricia.
In 1979 Dorothy moved to Iowa. She returned to quilting which she had learned in childhood and her quilts were well regarded by those who bought or received them.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; son; sister, Florence Butt of Scott City, Ka.; brother, Francis Ridpath of Western, Neb. And brother Maurice Ridpath of Hingham, Mass. Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Weller of Oakland, Calif.; sister, Lucile Lampi of Bremerton, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bear Creek Friends Meeting, 18058 Bear Creek Rd., north of Earlham on Saturday, May 20, at 10 a.m.
The family has requested that memorials be given to the Alliance for the Mentally Ill, nami.org.
