Albert was born in Rushville, NE on June 27, 1930, to Ralph and Wilma Sandoz Carter. He was an identical twin to his brother Delbert. He had fond memories of working on his grandfather, Peter Sandoz’s ranch, which was near the “Old Jules” ranch, in western Nebraska. Albert and his brother would spend their summers working on the ranch and Albert also worked there for a few years after his high school graduation. He was very proud of his Sandoz Heritage and Mari Sandoz literature. One highlight of his life was attending the opening of the Sandoz Center in Chadron, NE with his son Roger and visiting with Dick Cavitt at that event.

He was married to Wilma (Maggart) Carter and to this union a son Roger was born. He was very proud of his son and enjoyed fishing, camping, discussing Sandoz literature and helping Roger with his record collection. Albert was an avid sports fan enjoying football and golf and always made exercise a priority in his life. He was known for his quick wit, insights, and advice.

Albert served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He was involved in the battle at Pork Chop Hill and was a recipient of a Bronze Star medal for his service. He attended Drake University and the American Institute of Business to prepare for his career in accounting and finance. He worked for Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Company of Iowa for 39 years and was named Treasurer in 1987. He retired from the company in 1993. He highly valued his relationship with the Rutledge family and the employees at the company.

Albert was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, son Roger, and brothers Delbert and Kenneth.
