Mrs. John Clear

The Brainard community was shocked by the sudden death of Mrs. Clear, which occurred Sunday evening, September 16, after a happy family reunion in honor of her youngest daughter’s thirteenth birthday, at her farm home in Nashville.

All her children and grandchildren had come for the occasion and when the busy day was over she was sitting in a chair beside the bed of her sick daughter, Minnie, when she was suddenly stricken with death. A physician was called, but Mrs. Clear had gone to the great beyond.

She and her daughter, Donna, had been baptized two weeks before. Just six months ago to the day, her youngest son Ernie, died and the family had hardly recovered from that great shock.

Mrs. Clear leaves her husband, John, four daughters, and one son, namely, Mrs. Minnie Greeley, Mrs. Edyith Kleinbeck, Mrs. Jessie Couring and Donna and Wilbur at home. There are seven grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.

Mrs. John Clear was born June 11, 1877 in Madison county, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at the Brainard church Wednesday afternoon, September 16, at two o’clock. Rev. C. H. Peters was in charge and a mixed quartette sang several numbers. Burial was made in the Westford United Brethren cemetery.

The pall bearers were John George and Jim Jurgenson, Frank Dorothy, Dial Closs and Walter Mc Phail.

Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Whitt, step father and mother of Mrs. Clear, Mrs. and Mrs. Ben Clear and Joe Guiberson, all of Winterset, drove to Brainard to attend the services.
