Richard “Rich” H. Menke, 76, of Long Grove, IA passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Weerts Funeral Home. Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2023 at Eldridge Methodist Church. Memorials may be left to Long Grove Fire Department, Pleasant Valley Education Foundation or Eldridge United Methodist Church.
Rich was born on December 24, 1946 in Des Moines, IA to Harold and Carol (Gloege) Menke. He attended South Dakota State and Iowa State Universities. He proudly served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. Rich was united in marriage to Deborah Goodwin on August 12, 1972 in Winterset, Iowa. His work history includes working at Central Trust Savings Bank in Eldridge as a trust officer. He also was an independent contractor, building and remodeling homes. He finished his career as a project manager for a masonry company.
Rich was a member of the Lions Club, and for 17 years served as a dedicated fireman for the Long Grove Fire Department. Rich was also a member of Eldridge United Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and model railroading. He also enjoyed building and designing homes. He was a huge supporter of his family and their various sporting and music activities.
Rich is survived by his loving wife, Debbie; children, Martin (Heidi) Menke of Bettendorf, IA Jay (Christy) Menke of Worthington, MN; grandchildren, Mateah Menke, Margo Menke and Miles Menke and one sister, Jan Harpole.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joan.
Rich was a loving husband, father and all around wonderful person. He will be missed dearly by his family.
