Patricia Ann Dolan

Patricia Ann Dolan, age 68, the daughter of Merl LeRoy and Elizabeth Ann (Wineinger) Kerns, was born August 6, 1954, in Winterset, Iowa. She left this life at her rural New Virginia, Iowa home on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

Patty grew up and attended school in Macksburg, Iowa until graduating from Interstate-35 Schools in 1972. On March 28, 1971, Patty was united in marriage to Alan Elliott Eads. They were blessed with two sons, Shawn and William “Billy”. Unfortunately, Alan passed away in 1977. On November 24, 1978, Patty married Stephen Thomas James Dolan. They were blessed with two children, Tisha and Kenneth. Over the years Patty and Steve opened their hearts and home up to five more children, James, Beth, Ashley, Samantha, and Lanny.

Patty and Stephen lived in Arkansas for nearly 12 years after their marriage, then from 1989 until 1993 in Macksburg, Iowa until spending the past 30 years in their current home in New Virginia. Patty took licensed practical nurse’s training and worked for many years in long term health care before earning her registered nurse’s degree in 2012. She worked in facilities in Des Moines, Winterset, and Norwalk, Iowa. She retired in February of 2021.

In her free time, Patty and Steve were long time members of the Oxbow Company (a horse and wagon club). Patty was vice-president for several years. She enjoyed camping at the 40, but most important to her were her family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; daughter-in-law, Isabella Eads; sister, Janet Brandenburg and husband, Price; sister-in-law, Janet Kerns; and niece, Amy Kerns. Survivors include her husband, Steve Dolan of New Virginia, Iowa; children, James & Betty Dolan of New Virginia, Shawn Eads of Macksburg, Iowa, Bill & Katie Eads of Cumming, Iowa, Beth Fletchall of Macksburg, Tisha Dolan of New Virginia, Kenny & Molly Dolan of St. Charles, Iowa, Ashley Coker of Dallas, Texas, Samantha & Allen Ruth of Truro, Iowa, and Lanny & Makayla Dolan of Truro; 22 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother, Jon Kerns of Indianola, Iowa; sister, Mylissa BeLieu and husband, Kerry of Indianola; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held at the Slade - O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa on Sunday, January 22, 2023, from 2 - 4 p.m. A gathering for food and fellowship will be held at the New Virginia Legion Hall in New Virginia, Iowa on Sunday from 5 - 7 p.m.
