Iowa City, IowaRobert R. Gideon went home to be with the Lord on December 24, 2022. He was 94 years old.
Robert was born September 14, 1928 in Davis County, Iowa, the son of Willis and Goldie (Quigley) Gideon.
Robert was a very humble man who held a strong devotion to his family and his faith. He believed that all praise should go to the giver of grace, his merciful God. Robert, having served his country in the 11th Army Airborne Infantry during WWII, went on to help the country's youth as an elementary school teacher, and later an elementary school principal for 30 years. Robert will be missed tremendously, but the lessons he bestowed will continue to be carried by all who loved him.
Robert's family include his cherished children, Sheila Gideon, James (Betsy) Gideon and Pamela (Bruce) Moen; daughter-in-law, Rhonna Uyenshi; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren; Robert and Phyllis's "acquired" grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who are like family to them; and his dog, Benji. Sadly, Robert is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Phyllis; children, Kathy Gideon and Robert Gideon Jr.; and siblings, Richard Gideon and Mary Cody.
Robert's family have arranged for a simple cremation in accordance with his wishes. He will be laid to rest at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa. Please continue to keep Robert's family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Transcription note: Mr. Gideon was the principal of 5th and 6th grades in the Winterset Community School District in the 1960s and his children attended school here.
