Mrs. Mary E. Howell, member of well-known Crawford township family, died last Friday, October 1, at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines.
Mrs. Howell was the former Mary E. Williams, daughter of Benjamin and Ruth Williams, and was born March 29, 1860, near Carthage, Illinois. In 1879 she came with her parents to a farm near Bevington.
She was married to Lanson Howell of Crawford township September 6, 1887. The remainder of her life was spent in that community, until moving to Winterset two years ago
Mr. and Mrs. Howell were the parents of eight children, three of whom preceded the mother in death. The husband and father died in 1918.
She leaves five sons, Wesley E. Howell, of Martensdale, D.C.; Curtis W. of Des Moines, Russell Howell of Vallejo, California, and Erwin M. Howell of Patterson, in addition to 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Seth Williams of Harper, Kansas.
Funeral Services wee held Sunday from the Patterson Methodist church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Oren Hall, and the Rev. G. L. Hufstader of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Montpelier cemetery.
