Mary Jane Crossley was born in Fairfield county, Ohio, April 30, 1830 and removed with her parents to Hancock county in the same state at which place she was united in marriage with Mr. Abner Bell on the twenty-fifth day of July, 1850.

The deceased united with the church at the age of seventeen. Her Christian life has been truly exemplified in her home life with her friends, neighbors and relatives making all who met her better for having made her acquaintance. To the persons who have been in close touch with her during life, we need not say that during all she has been blessed with patience that characterizes a truly noble Christian life. Especially has this been true during the past few years when afflicted with blindness and suffering she has borne all without a murmur or complaint. She passed from earthly life for a life eternal at two o’clock Saturday morning, March 13, 1904, at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 11 days. The deceased was the mother of eleven children, eight of who are living. All were present at the funeral except one daughter.

The funeral services were at the M. E. church Monday at two o’clock. Rev. Barick conducted the services. Two of the grandchildren and four of the nephews acted as pallbearers. The remains were laid to rest in the Montpelier cemetery. May we all learn lessons of a true Christian life filed with patience and long suffering, so that when the call comes for us to go hence we will all be a united family in heaven, where death is never known.
