Celebration of Life Services: Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield, Iowa with burial at the Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter at a later date.

Karen Jeanne Schleiffarth was born October 14, 1947, in Dexter, Iowa, the daughter of Luther (Tom) and Aleta (Lewis) Perry. She passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2012, at the Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa, at the age of 64.

Karen was raised in Greenfield and graduated from Greenfield High School. On December 17, 1966, she was united in marriage to Eugene Schleiffarth in Iowa Falls, Iowa. To this union two daughters were born: Melissa and Patricia.

Karen and Gene owned and operated the Tiger Drive Inn and the Maid-Rite in Greenfield and then after selling them they purchased the Standard Station in Greenfield and operated it for a number of years. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards and facebooking.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Randall Perry; sister, Bethel Perry in infancy; brother-in-law, Dean von Rentzell; and step-daughter, Barb Wine.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene Schleiffarth of Earlham; two daughters, Melissa Kendrick and James of Earlham and Patricia Swan and Mark of Earlham; grandson, Jared Dory; sister, Joyce von Rentzell of Earlham; other relatives and friends.

Transcriber’s note: Karen and Gene lived in Earlham for a number of years until their passing. Burial was at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
