Ted Raymond Haney was born November 20, 1932 in Madison County, Iowa the son of Raymond and Bernice (Allsup) Haney.

Ted’s father worked in construction and consequently the family moved often during his childhood. He spent his high school years in Newton, Iowa where he graduated with the Class of 1950. Ted joined the Army in March of 1953.

He was stationed in Berlin, Germany until his honorable discharge in January of 1958. On September 8, 1964 he was united in marriage to Sherry Covault at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Throughout his career Ted worked at the Knoxville V.A. Hospital, was an assistant manager of Gibson’s in Knoxville and a manager of Gibson’s in Clarion and had worked in a coal mine in Illinois. Following his retirement he was a greeter at Kin Folks Restaurant in Des Moines.

Ted had a variety of interests; he liked to fish every day that he could, he enjoyed playing cards, making birdhouses and researching genealogy. He and Sherry loved to dance and play cards. Family was the center of Ted’s life; he and Sherry attended grandkids activities and they had an annual family outing at the Cordova cabins at Lake Red Rock. He cherished his wife, children and grandchildren.

Ted passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at the Knoxville Hospital & Clinics at the age of 86 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandsons: Raymond Eugene Haney and Randy Musser and his sister, Joyce Ford.

Those left to cherish Ted’s memory include his wife, Sherry; children: Raymond Milo (Marsha) Haney, Pam Haney, Deborah Evans, Denise (Bernard) Lee and Dennis Haney (Mark Benson); grandchildren: Dustin (Andrea) Haney, Angie Haney, Brandy (Luke) Pidde, Shelby Lee (Tyler Green), Eric (Hannah) Lee, Jenna Lee, Grace Haney, Adam Lee and Emma Haney; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Dale Ford; siblings: Jack (Caroline) Haney, Connie (Ron) Rider, Peggy (Ron) Smith, Patty (Fred) Smith, Doug (Cindy) Smith and Roger (Diane) Smith and many other family members and friends.

A Funeral service for Ted Haney, age 86 of Knoxville, will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church at 11:30 a.m. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the American Heart Association.
