John Raymond Waters was born October 9, 1941 in Winterset, Iowa to Burt L. Waters and Georgia Fay (Pace) Waters. After high school John joined the United States Navy and served in the Vietnam War. After his time in the service he returned home to Des Moines.

John was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Liggins. To this union five girls were born, Margareit, Beverly, Jacqueline, Kimberly and Paula. They were married for 22 years until they divorced, and John continued raising his five girls on his own.

John worked many years as a salesman in the Des Moines area. He sold several different things over the years from vacuums to Homeowners Insurance trailers and most recently selling cars for Bud Mulcahy's in Des Moines. John resided in Mount Ayr after retirement. He enjoyed the people in the community and fishing at Loch Ayr Lake.

John was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law Junior Routh; his brothers and sisters.

Left to cherish his are his five daughters Margareit Millard and Beverly Routh both of Des Moines, Jacqueline (Tim) McVey of Mount Ayr, Kimberly Waters and Paula Waters both of Des Moines; eleven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and extended family and friends.
