Succumbs at Winterset on Thursday; Two Weeks After Shooting
Sherwood Carney, wounded by a bullet allegedly fired by Ivan Rhone at Barney on February 20th, died at the hospital in Winterset last Thursday after a two-weeks struggle for his life. He was 47 years of age.
Mr. Carney was born near Anita on March 11, 1888, the son of Adam and Mary Rosensback Carney. On December 19,1912, he was married to Violet Louise Brooks at Homer, Iowa. They made their home for nine years in Cass county, moving to Barney two years ago to the Doss Gardner farm.
The deceased is survived by his widow; two brothers, Albert Carney of Cherokee and Henry Carney of Lake Wilson Minnesota; four sisters, Mrs. Alice Brockman of Greenfield, Mrs. Marie Lumley of Hampton, Mrs. Hattie Foate of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Mrs. Grace Brooks of Omaha; and an uncle, Henry Carney of Marcus, Iowa.
Funeral Service were conducted at the Methodist church in Anita, Sunday in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Mr. Prather. Burial was made in the Evergreen cemetery near there.
