Carol Ione Smith passed peacefully on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at the Stuart Community Care Center in Stuart, at the age of 96.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 21, 2022 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel. Family will greet friends one hour prior, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Penn Center Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family for a future designation.

Carol was born in Des Moines, Iowa on September 28, 1926, the daughter of William and Lura Jacobs McCarthy. She graduated from Des Moines North High School in January 1945. She wed Lloyd Smith of Earlham on September 29, 1945. Together they lived on a farm south of Earlham for over 50 years, raising 7 children.

Carol enjoyed playing cribbage and other card games, along with doing word puzzles. She especially enjoyed time with her family.

She is survived by her children, William (Susan) Smith, Linda Strong, Michael Smith, Diana (Dwayne) Scar, Daniel (Dawn) Smith, Mark Smith and special friend, Laura; sister, Marcella; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd; son, Robert; brother, William; great-granddaughter, Hannah Varner; son-in-law, Steve Strong; and grandson-in-law, Randy Johnson.
