Friday, March 19, 1909S. Austin, a man 81 years old living with his son, George Austin, in Monroe township, was gored by a bull Tuesday evening and died 10 minutes after he was found and carried to the house. Interment was in the Barney Cemetery.

Mr. Sands Austin, who lived with his son Geo. Austin near Barney, was killed Monday evening by an enraged bull. He had gone into the feed lot to look after the stock when the bull attacked him and crushed him against the barn. He died in about twenty minutes after the accident.
Mr. Austin was born in New York state in 1822 and came to Madison county in 1879. He moved to Kansas some years ago but returned to Madison county in 1897 and has since made this county his home. The funeral was held today from the home and he was laid to rest in the Barney cemetery.

Sands Austin was born in New York state about 1828. Moved to Wisconsin in 1847. Was married to Rosanna Saunders in 1852. To this union two children were borne, one son and one daughter, the daughter dying in infancy. The deceased moved with his family to this state in 1870 and settled in Madison county in 1876. In 1882 they moved to Thomas county, Kansas, at which place they resided until the year 1891 when he returned to Madison county where he has since resided with his son. He departed this life March 15, 1909, aged 81 years. He is survived by his aged wife, son George and family, and other relatives and friends who mourn his loss.

Sands Austin, an Aged Farmer of Monroe Township, Killed by Angry Bull
Sands Austin, an aged farmer and respected citizen of Monroe township, was gored to death by an angry bull while doing chores at his farm three miles northwest of Barney. Mr. Austin lived with his son, Geo. Austin. He went to the barn lot to do some chores on Monday evening. Soon after, he was found by other members of the family, his body terribly bloodied and his ribs broken. He was then conscious but lived but a few minutes.
Mr. Austin who was a native of New York state, moved to this county twenty nine years ago. He later moved to Kansas but returned to Madison county about seventeen years ago.
His funeral was held from the residence and burial made at Barney cemetery.
