LOCALS – Obituary

Elizabeth Merrick was born November 9, 1839 near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and died at her home in Winterset November 22, 1912, aged 73 years and 13 days.

She was united in marriage to George A. Tullis, March 18, 1858. To them were born five children, four sons and one daughter, the daughter and three sons preceding the mother to the other world. Thomas died when three years old; Josephine died when seven years old; Anderson died when nineteen years old and William died at thirty-six years old.

She confessed in her Savior and was baptized when very young. She and her husband united with the Christian church more than fifty years ago and have been faithful until the Master said it is enough. For many years she was unable to be at the services of the church, but never for a moment lost interest nor an opportunity to manifest that interest.

She leaves to tarry a little longer, her aged companion and the son who has been their stay for many years. She also leaves two sisters now living in Ohio and three grandchildren now living in California to mourn her loss.

The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the home, rev. R. C. Grafton officiating, assisted by Rev. E. E. Bennett of Des Moines. There were present from out of town Mrs. and Mrs. C. L. Francis, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Bennett of Des Moines. Interment was made in the Winterset cemetery.
