Thomas J. Barber was born October 31, 1847, in Putnam county, Indiana; passed away August 8, 1912, at the age of 64 years, 9 months and 7 days.

In 1860 his parents immigrated from Indiana and settled in Clarke county, Iowa; Thomas was then thirteen years old. In 1867 he was united in marriage with Susan C. Bruommet on the 23d day of May. This union was blessed with two daughters, Emma, who lives in Missouri, and Fanny, residing in Truro. His wife, Susan, died in 1869.

On October 24, 1871, he was united in marriage with Mary P. DeLong, who died in June, 1872. September 20, 1873, he was united in marriage with Mary J. Cooper. To this union was given one daughter, Minnie, born October 13, 1875, and died September 8, 1879, at the age of 3 years, 10 months and 15 days. He resided in Clarke County, Iowa, until October 8, 1906, when he moved to Truro.

The deceased leaves to mourn his departure a faithful wife, two daughters, three brothers, one sister and many personal friends. He has been in declining health for some years; just four weeks preceding his death he was stricken with paralysis. Thomas will be missed by his many friends around town who had grown to like him.

The funeral services were held at the residence at 11 o’clock Saturday, conducted by Rev. Powell, and the body was laid to rest in the Field cemetery, south of town. The Knights of Pythias lodge had charge of the body at the cemetery, paying their last respects to a beloved brother. - Truro Correspondent.
