Born in Des Moines, raised in St. Charles, IA
Resided in Runnells, IA

Troy Shreves, 58, passed from this earth to his eternal home on Thursday, September 8, 2022. Troy’s life will be celebrated at a service filled with stories, music and bright, casual attire to be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 16 at The Mission Church, Urbandale. Burial will be at the St. Charles Cemetery in St. Charles immediately following the service. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 15 at The Mission Church.

Troy was born on June 23, 1964, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Larry and Ceceilia Ball Shreves. His hometown was St. Charles, Iowa, and he attended Interstate 35 high school. After school, he began working at United Parcel Service, and decided to join the Air Force, serving four years at Columbus Air Force, Columbus, Mississippi. While serving as a mechanic on T-38 jets, he completed his associates degree, and earned his Air Frame & Power Plant License. During a trip home for his sister’s wedding, Troy met and began dating Twila Burn. After being honorably discharged in early 1988, he returned to Iowa, marrying Twila in October of that year. Because UPS gave Troy a four-year military leave of absence, he was able to return to his part time job with them, and very quickly began a full-time position driving a package car in downtown Des Moines until his retirement in March of 2020.

Since driving was in his blood, he passed his advanced CDL in October of 2020, and began Driving a Semi, hauling grain for Bob Brown Trucking in
Bondurant. He called himself “Semi” retired, and not only loved the crew he worked with, but also driving across Iowa from elevator to elevator.

Anyone who knew Troy well knew he loved wrenching on cars and was a gifted mechanic. If he wasn’t at home working on his 1966 kit car replica Cobra, you would find him at either his buddy Jack’s garage in Ankeny, where they refurbished over 30 cars in 24 years, or just a few miles up the road with his with his other buddy, Steve, working on a project car.

The only thing greater than Troy’s love for his family, his friends, and cars was his love for his Savior, Jesus Christ! His life revolved around his relationship with the Lord, with his deepest heart’s desire to see his friends come to know his Savior as he did.

Troy is survived by his sweetheart, Twila; their sons, Caleb and Josh Shreves (Anna) of Des Moines; his parents, Larry and Ceceilia Shreves of St. Charles; his parents-in-law, Doyle and Barbara Burn of Pleasant Hill; his sister, Kim (Scott) Leichty of Prole; his brother-in-law, John (Maria) Burn and their sons, Soren and Jack of Ortonville, Michigan; his brother-in-law, David Burn of Des Moines; his nephew, Tyler (Jessica) Leichty of Michigan; his niece, Katlin Leichty of Prole; his aunt, Jackie McKinney of St. Charles; his uncle, Dave (Jeri) Hodson of Texas; his in-laws, Uncle Roger and Aunt Nancy Stufflebeam of Waverly, along with many great aunts, uncles and cousins. He is also survived by his “brothers”, Ray (Donna) Zink of Orlando, Florida, John (Danielle) Lloyd of Columbus, Mississippi and Dean (Becky) Bell of Ankeny.

Troy was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Delmar & Edna Shreves; his maternal grandparents, Myron & Betty Harris; and cousins, David and Jimmy Hodson, as well as his car buddy, Jack Brown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be to Willowbrook Bible Camp.
