Jean Hardy Vogel

Jean passed away peacefully on September 9, 2022 at her home in West Des Moines. Jean Ann was born in 1930 in Omaha to Dale and Reba (Kellogg) Schmedika. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Jean graduated with honors from Ellsworth College, before residing in Ames, Winterset, and Adel. Throughout her life, she volunteered for several charitable organizations, holding many jobs to support her family. Jean enjoyed reading, puzzles, crafts, and the great outdoors. Jean enjoyed traveling, with Alaska and Hawaii being favorites. She and Grandpa Dave Solomon enjoyed endless adventures in their RV.

Her kind heart and giving nature will be missed by her children; Steve (Kate) Hardy of Ames, Nancy Jennings of West Des Moines, Ann (Tom) Wodniak of West Des Moines, and Jim (Ryan) Hardy of West Des Moines. She dearly loved her 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cindy, her parents, and her twin sister, Mary Balentine.

The family would like to thank the staff at UCS Healthcare and Hospice of the Midwest for their care and concern for Jean during life and on her final journey. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
