Penny Louise Schaffer, daughter of Carroll Dwight Hiatt and Helen Louise (Murphy) Hiatt was born April 24, 1947 in Osceola, Iowa and passed from this life suddenly, Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa at 75 years of age.

Penny was born at Osceola hospital in Osceola, Iowa and grew up in the Truro area. She graduated from I-35 high School with the class of 1965. Penny was united in marriage to Eric Schaffer on July 31, 1965 in Truro, Iowa and two children, Jody and Rick, blessed this union.  

Penny was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Penny loved making birthdays and holidays with her family special. She loved to cook, sew, craft, and play games with her loved ones. She enjoyed bowling and participated in many different leagues over the years. She cherished every moment she spent with those closest to her and brought joy, love, and happiness into everyone’s life. She will be greatly missed.

Penny was preceded in death by her parents, Carroll and Helen Hiatt, brother, Dennis (Suzanne) Hiatt, and nephew, Wade Allen Hiatt.

Penny leaves to cherish her memory, loving husband of 57 years, Eric Schaffer of Truro, IA, daughter, Jody Schaffer of Martinez, CA, son, Rick (Carrie) Schaffer of St. Charles, IA, grandchildren, Alek (Frankie Cruz) Heilstedt of Houston, TX, Lydia (Dean) Frank of Des Moines, IA, Nicholas (Kendall) Schaffer of St. Charles, IA, Haley (Seth) Fineran of Norwalk, IA, Mick (Kassie) Schaffer of St. Charles, IA, nephew Chet (Ginger) Hiatt of Lorimor, IA, great grandchild, Rylynn Rose Frank and honorary grandchildren Ciera (Zach) White of Olathe, KS Carter Lundgren of Cedar Rapids, IA as well as other relatives and many friends.

Services will be held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Friday August 19, 2022 at 11:00 am with Pastor Sandy Smith officiating.

Family will greet friends an hour prior to the services on Friday. A live stream of the service will be available at kalefuneralhome.com

Interment will follow in the Fremont Cemetery.
