Des Moines, IowaPeggy “Peg” L. Dowler, 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 5, 2022 at MercyOne Hospice in Johnston.
Peg was born January 13, 1940 in Des Moines to Kenneth H. and Clarine A. (Fox) Young. She grew up in Waukee and Winterset, Iowa. Following her high school graduation, she moved to Norwalk, where she lived most of her adult life with her husband, Charles “Chuck” Dale Dowler. Peg worked for Equitable of Iowa and finished her career as an administrative assistant at Pinkerton Security for over 27 years.
She was a member of the beloved “Red Coats” bowling team consisting of her dearest friends. Peg enjoyed bowling, golf and spending time with her family. She and Chuck could always be found at any event involving their children, grandchildren or great grandchildren. Peg was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother with a wonderful sense of humor and a knack for Holiday Surprises.
Peg is survived by her daughter, Debra (Larry) Covington; son, Daniel Dowler; three grandchildren, Nicholas (Kendra) Covington, Alex (Megan) Covington, Sarah Covington; four great-grandchildren, Evelynn, Charlie, Lydia and Henry; brother, John “Jack” (Nancy) Young; her friend of over 50 years, Jeanne; many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Charles “Chuck” Dowler, brother Gerry Young and sister Mary (Young) Snyder.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Norwalk Firefighters Association in support of the Norwalk Fire and Rescue teams who have served our family in so many critical ways.
In accordance with Peg’s wishes, a private family graveside service will be held at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines at a later date.
