Eugene Colon Gunter

Eugene Colon Gunter, son of Thomas Colon and Sarah (Hircock) Gunter was born July 24, 1938 in Winterset, Iowa, and passed from this life, suddenly, Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa at 83 years of age.

Gene grew up in Winterset, Iowa and graduated from Winterset High School. He married Marie Pettit and she preceded him in death. Gene married Lana Macey in April of 2013 in Van Wert.

Gene was a hard working husband and father, he worked many years as a welder and truck driver. He owned his own welding shop for many years and also worked as a welder and truck driver for other companies, including Martin Marietta. Gene was a member of the Weldon Masonic Lodge and transferred his membership to the Osceola Masonic Lodge, he also was a Shriner in years past. He attended the Van Wert Assembly Church.

Gene enjoyed time with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing 4 point pitch and riding motorcycles. In recent years he could often be found at Wade's Cafe discussing the problems of the world with many of his coffee drinking friends. He will be missed.

Those relatives who preceded Eugene in death were his parents, Thomas and Sarah Gunter, wife, Marie Gunter, sons, Colon Wright, Gary Wright, and Marc Grimes, daughter, Kathy Grimes, and brother Larry Gunter.

Eugene leaves to cherish his memory; wife, Lana Gunter of Van Wert, Iowa, daughter, Patricia Wilkins of Murray, Iowa, daughter, Shelley (Robin) Bradford of Corydon, Iowa, daughter, Tami (Scott) Thomas of Florida, son, Gale (Ruth) Grimes of Des Moines, Iowa, son, Ralph (Jeannette) Wright of Murray, Iowa, honorary son, Jeff Dall, sister, JoAnn Sirdoreus, brother, Duane Gunter, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as other relatives and many friends.

Cremation was entrusted to Kale Funeral home in Osceola

Graveside services will be Saturday July 16, 2022 at the Van Wert Cemetery in Van Wert, Iowa with Pastor Butch Black officiating.

Family will meet with friends following the graveside at the Van Wert Community for a time of food and sharing of memories. Everyone is invited.
