June 23, 2022Mary, age 88, of Chandler, AZ formally of Des Moines, IA, passed away in loving care at the home of her daughter and son in law.
Mary was born February 28, 1934 near Winterset, Iowa to Ray and Helen (Frey) Vannatta and passed away in Chandler, Az. on June 17, 2022. Mary graduated from Winterset High School in 1952 in Winterset,IA. Mary continued her education in nursing at Iowa Methodist School of Nursing graduating in 1957. Mary continued her career at IMMC as a nurse in the newborn unit for nearly 40 years. Mary retired in 1996. With a life long career in nursing Mary touched many lives and nurtured many children into this world.
Mary had a mind for finance and shared that she would have enjoyed being in accounting because of her love of numbers. Mary was an avid reader, loved completing and solving crossword puzzles, picture puzzles and a long time listener of Iowa public radio. With all the knowledge Mary gathered we believe she would have been a contender on Jeopardy! But her humble spirit would have said otherwise.
Surviving are two children Deann (Woodruff) Andrews, husband David and Erik Andrews, wife Christine. Three grandchildren Caleb Andrews, Noah Andrews, Bailey Woodruff and step~granddaughter Lindsey Woodruff.
Mary is proceded in death by her parents Ray Earl Vannatta and Helen May Vannatta(Frey), sister Dorothy (Vannatta) Decker.
Cremation has taken place and no services are being held. If desired, Mary wishes that you would make a donation in her name to Iowa public radio (iowapublicradio.org) or Hospice of the Valley. 1510 E. Flowers St. Phoenix, AZ. 85014 (hov.org)
