Barbara Faidley

Des Moines - Barbara Lee Faidley, 76, of Des Moines, IA, passed away on February 6, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. A visitation and Celebration of Life will be held starting at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines, IA, with the Celebration at 11:00 am. A luncheon will follow the Celebration and a private graveside service will occur at a later date.

Barbara was born to Hazel and LeRoy McDonald on December 18, 1946. After graduating from Creston High School, Barbara earned her BA from Northwest Missouri State in 1969, before going on to earn her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Iowa in 1973.

After graduation and during graduate school, Barbara worked at Camp Sunnyside, the YMCA Boys Home, and Orchard Place, where she met her husband, Allan. In 1984, Barbara began working as a social worker for the Des Moines Public Schools, where she remained until her retirement in 2005.

Barbara and Allan were married on August 5, 1972, and raised their three children in Winterset, IA. Barbara devoted her professional career to helping children in crisis, and in her daily life she radiated compassion and empathy. She was a fierce advocate for those in need. Barbara was an avid reader and loved to travel. She was happiest when she was with her 7 grandsons, whom she adored.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 49 years, Allan, and their three loving children Chris (Sara) Faidley of California, David (Rachel) Faidley of Texas, and Erika (Aaron) James of Des Moines, her sisters Karen (Lewis) Clark of Colorado and Kristine (Jack) Cheers of Iowa, brother-in-law Richard Faidley of California and sister-in-law Sherry Healy of Texas, as well as numerous extended family and friends. She will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Orchard Place or the National Kidney Foundation.
