William Joseph Roach was born on June 1, 1945 to Martin John and Margaret Williams Roach in Madison County, Iowa. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1963 and attended Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. On June 26, 1965 he married Shirley Anne Hart.

In 1976, Bill opened Madison County Tire, an independent Goodyear Dealership in Winterset, Iowa. He was very active in the community for several decades as a part of the Winterset Fire Department and the Winterset Water Department, as Covered Bridge Chairman, and as President of the Chamber of Commerce just to name a few.

Bill had a heavy focus on family. He was a Cub and Boy Scout leader, he coached Little League Baseball and attended nearly every extracurricular activity and performance of his sons and grandchildren. In addition to his commitment to bettering the lives of his family and his compassion for those in need, Bill was proud of his family and his Irish history. He made a few trips to Ireland to explore the country and discover more of his family tree.

Bill’s passion for history included antiques. He took a lot of pride in the restoration of the 1886 home that he and Shirley shared. His hobby was antique auctions. His primary collections were antique cars and clocks. He was a member of the Central Iowa Auto Club and the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. He spent countless hours researching topics of all kinds, and loved to share his knowledge with anyone interested.

He is survived by his wife Shirley (Hart) Roach; sister Margaret “Peggy” Tibbits (Roy); brother Michael Roach (Ellie); sons Mark (Misti) and Joseph (Mia) Roach; grandchildren Madeline, Ava, William and Jackson Roach.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret and his father, Martin.
