Edna Johnson

Edna Scarberry Johnson, 97, of Afton, died Friday, May 27, 2022, at Creston Specialty Care in Creston. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday June 1, 2022, at the Powers Funeral Home in Afton 612 North Dodge. Services will be live streamed. Pastor Rick Titus will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton, Ia. Open visitation with family receiving friends will be Wednesday from 10-11:00AM and service time at 11AM June 1, 2022, at the Powers Funeral Home in Afton 612 North Dodge. In Lieu of flowers memorials can be left for the family to plant trees in her name.

Edna Margaret Johnson, daughter of Raymond Arthur Paullin and Mabel Rose (Cramer) Paullin, was born December 12, 1924, in Winterset, Iowa. She attended country school in the Winterset area.

On February 19, 1942, Edna was united in marriage to Olen Russell Scarberry. They settled in Lorimor where she worked hard raising her nine children. They were later divorced.

On December 12, 1970, Edna was united in marriage to Ralph C. Johnson in Mt. Ayr, Iowa and his sons, Richard and Max joined the family. They settled on a farm near Macksburg, Ia. where they lived until moving to Afton in 1989.

Edna had many interests and talents. She loved gardening, flowers, traveling, writing, drawing, collecting dolls and antiques, photography, singing and her yard swing where, on a nice day, you could find her with her ever-present cup of coffee. But of all the things she enjoyed, nothing compared to the love she had for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her seven children, Patricia Britain of Redding, Calif., Della Rae (husband Marvin) Orndorff of Princeton, Mo., Connie (husband Tom) Brown of Creston, Ia., Olen “Randy” Scarberry of Creston, Ia., Cindy (husband Doug) Sleep of Bedford, Ia., Ricky Scarberry (Susie Scherer) of Creston and Bradley Scarberry of Afton, Ia., Step-son Max Johnson of the home; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and a brother Frank (wife Sharon) Paullin of Creston.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Husband Ralph Johnson, son Ronnie Scarberry, Daughter Rhonda Sue Falk, step-son Richard Johnson and three sisters, Dorothy Scarberry, Ruth Ann Hartsook and Ruby Beaver, a grandson Cory Scarberry, a granddaughter Kimberly Ann Stockman, great-grandson Ronnie Smith and son-in-law Butch Britain.
