Kelly Sue Payne, age 62, of Winterset, Iowa passed away peacefully at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

Kelly was born to Kenneth and Enolia (Young) Payne on September 26, 1959 in Madison County Memorial Hospital. She graduated from Winterset High School and attended Simpson College and Mercy College of Health Sciences.

A marriage to Larry Johnston in 1976 produced three sons: Klint (Shauna) Johnston and son, Jack; Nicholas (Cheyenne) Johnston and sons, Ryley and Cooper; and Ahren Joseph "Joey" Johnston and son, Sebastian, daughter, Lucy Jo. She later married Jeff Towle who proceeded her in death.

She worked 25 years in the Dental field and enjoyed it very much. She made so many friends there. She later returned to college to obtain a certificate as a RPSGT (Registered Polysomnographic Technologist in sleep medicine.)

In her free time she enjoyed mentoring elementary aged children, teaching Sunday school, working with toddlers at the Jerimiah Program in Minneapolis and traveling with her sisters. She really loved attending her sons’ baseball games and anything they were active in. She made many trips with their classes as a class mom. She also enjoyed being a part of her nieces and nephews lives. Her great nieces and nephews affectionately gave her the name Aunt KiKi.

Kelly is survived by, in addition to her sons, first husband, Larry and by her mother, Enolia Payne-Buck; her sisters; Kenna Payne-Neighbors; Kristy Payne-Losey (Doug); and brother, Kent (Kris) Payne along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a great great niece.

Proceeding her in death was her father, Kenneth O. Payne, Grandparents, Earl and Vera Young, Omer and Olive Payne, husband, Jeffrey Towle and nephews, Jordan and Ben Payne, and a great nephew, Wyatt Miller.

Memorials can be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital or to the family for later designation. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time.
