April 2022

Raymond James Hardy, a mechanic for Winterset Community Schools and long-time resident of Winterset, Iowa passed away at home, surrounded by family following a brief illness on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the age of 90. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Ray thoroughly enjoyed singing and jamming with his friends in Winterset and during his winters in Texas. He had a passion for fast cars, fast boats, anything with a motor and wheels and loved to show off his antique cars, especially during the Winterset Covered Bridge Parade every year since 1983.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 54 years and was active in the Church Men’s Group and served on the Cemetery Board during that time. He was a proud cattle and grain farmer and loved the outdoors. You could always count on Ray for some great stories of when he was younger, tips on how to fix cars, or how to jerry-rig just about anything.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Joan Powell Hardy; his children Dianna (Rodney) Wallace of Pleasant Hill, Rick (Carol) Hardy of Norwalk; Alan (Linda) Powell of Charles City; Steven Powell of Northwood; his sisters Joan (Ted) Dyer of Pleasant Hill and Linda (Jack) Allenduff of Gladstone, MO. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog Ellie.

He was preceded in death by his father Raymond “Jack” Hardy, his step-dad Mike Belluchi, mother Louise Belluchi, brother Jerry Belluchi, sister Deloris Gustin, daughter Nanette Hardy Caswell, son Terry Powell, and grandson Scott Roby.
