James Hanna who died in Des Moines a week or two since, was for years a resident of Winterset, and his acquaintance with the oldest residents of the county, practically included them all. He was a genial, jovial man and his integrity and honesty were never questioned.

He was appointed local agent of the Farmers’ Insurance company for Madison county in 1867 and served the company faithfully and well until he went to Indianola fifteen years later. He has resided in Des Moines in recent years.

His many old friends in Madison county will learn of his death with sorrow.
