Page 5During the heavy storm of Wednesday night there was a very sad accident at Beverly. The residence of Mr. Edward Burdick was struck by lightning about 2 o’clock. It seems that the bolt struck about the middle of the roof, followed the tin spouting down, entering the bed chamber, on the second floor, and struck the bed post just at Mr. Burdick’s head, killing him instantly. There were no marks of any kind on the body, so it must have been a severe shock.
Mr. Burdick was a member of the Baptist church and was looked upon as a real Christian gentleman, he had been to prayer meeting, made an unusual, good prayer, went home very happy and about two o’clock the next morning he was called to his home in Heaven where no storms ever come.
Mr. Burdick leaves a wife and four small children to mourn the loss of a good father and kind Christian husband. There was a large gathering of friends and neighbors at the funeral, and all seemed to grieve the loss of this good man.---Tescott Herald.
