Civil War Widow Dies at I. S. H.

Mrs. Ella Cleveland, 72, died Sunday morning at 7:10 at the Iowa Soldier’s Home where she had been living since Aug. 16, 1940. Death was due to age debility and cerebral hemorrhage.

Mrs. Cleveland was born in Iowa on Dec. 21, 1868. Her husband, Aaron Cleveland, who preceded her in death was a civil war veteran, a member of Company E, First Wisconsin Cavalry.

A sister, Mrs. Nora Snow, of Earlham, survives. Mrs. Cleveland formerly lived at Earlham.

Week’s Letter from Earlham

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Presbyterian church for Mrs. Ella Cleveland who died Sunday morning at the Veterans home at Marshalltown, at the age of 72 years, one month and 25 days. Mrs. Cleveland was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 7, 1939.

She was a member of the Presbyterian church, the Rebekah lodge and the Three Link club.

She leaves to mourn her death two sisters, Mrs. Nora Snow of Earlham and Mrs. – Dylstra of Orange City.

Ella M. Cleveland, daughter of John W. Lee and Ruth Wilson Lee, was born December 21, 1868 at Penn Center, Madison county, Iowa, and departed from this life, February 16, 1941 at the Veteran’s Home at Marshalltown, Iowa, at the age of 72 years, one month and 25 days.

She lived the most of her life around Earlham, with the exception of a few years spent in Montana.

At the age of 18 years she was united in wedlock to Thomas Carroll, who passed away November 21, 1898. On December 9, 1901 she was married to Aaron E. Cleveland, who preceded her in death January 7, 1939.

She was a member of the Presbyterian church, the Rebekah Lodge, and the Three Link Club.

She leaves to mourn her death, two sisters, Mrs. Nora Snow of Earlham, and Mrs. Y. Dykstra of Orange City, Iowa, many other relatives, plus a host of friends.

Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon, by the pastor the Rev. S. R. Overholser. The body was laid to rest beside loved ones in the Earlham cemetery.
