Ronald Sparks

Ronald W. Sparks, 82, passed away Friday, January 28, 2022 at home with family by his side. A Celebration of life will take place on Monday, February 7, 2022 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior at the St. Paul Lutheran Church (615 Iowa Avenue Martensdale, IA 50160). Burial will take place at a later date in the spring at St. Charles Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Ronald was born March 18, 1939, in Galesburg, Illinois, to Romie and Zelpha (Bonney) Sparks. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1958. Ron was united in marriage to Nadine Sparks on October 31, 1964 in Murray, Iowa and they lived in the Des Moines and surrounding area his whole life. He worked in the car industry his whole life in various roles. Ron retired from Iowa Auto Damage Appraisers in 1999.

Ron enjoyed traveling, many memorable trips include Colorado and Hawaii, he liked wind surfing and being on the water in general. Him and Nadine spent many winters in Corpus Christi, Texas. When he had free time, Ron was always working on and fixing cars, he did a lot of bodywork as a side gig. Above all, Ron cherished spending time with his family, including children, grand and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nadine Sparks; children: Ronda Barloga and Larry (Cindy) Phillips; grandchildren: Samantha Barloga, Adam (Micah) Phillips and Abby (Tye) Scott; great grandchildren: Annie, Haley, Tyler and Mazie Phillips; Makenzie and Ayla Moeller; he is also survived by one sister, Joyce Lathrum.

Ronald is preceded in death by his parents, Romie and Zelpha, in-laws, Dean and Ethel Strable; and brothers: Dale, Bob and James Sparks.
