December 2021Thorman Ray Campbell, son of James Bryce Campbell and Eve Blanche (Sherman) Campbell was born April 1, 1923 in Filmore, Saskatchewan, Canada and passed from this life Monday, December 27, 2021 at the Urbandale Health Care Center in Urbandale, Iowa at 98 years of age with his family at his side.
Thorman graduated from St. Marys High School in 1941, where he met the love of his life. He was united in marriage to Pauline Seymour on April 11, 1944 in Avon, Iowa. They were married for over 70 years and three daughters blessed this union.
Thorman was a hard worker and loving family man. He farmed and also worked at various companies including Colonial Bread, Spillman Ditching, General Mills, Kurtz Hardware and Ro-Banks Well Company. Thorman and Pauline were very active members of the St. Charles United Methodist Church which later became the St. Charles Parish, where Thorman taught Sunday school and was a board member.
Thorman was a member of the Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge, St. Charles Lions Club, and served on the Warren County zoning commission and the St Charles School Board working on the consolidation of I-35 Schools. He enjoyed square dancing, camping and was a member of the Rolling Wheels Camping Club, and camped at the Iowa State Fair for more than 60 years. He enjoyed traveling with Pauline and they wintered in Arizona for many years.
Those relatives who preceded Thorman in death were his wife, Pauline Campbell, grandson Darren Chanas, his parents, brothers Ivan, Eugene, Spencer, Clarence, and sisters Lucille (infant) and Alberta Miller.
Thorman leaves to cherish his memory are his daughters; Charlotte (Roger) Banks of St. Charles, IA, Diane (Mike) Chanas of Des Moines, IA, and Connie (Stan) Barnard of Urbandale, IA, extended family, Elaine (Dennis) Knudtson of Grimes, grandchildren, Rachel Banks, Randy (Crystal Grout) Banks, Brandon Chanas, Alanna (P.J.) LaMunyon, Chad (Brittany Tibben) Barnard, Jenna Barnard, Nicholas Barnard, seven great-grandchildren, Elaine and Dennis's children, Shaylee (Brett) VanderVelden, Eric (Tiffany) Knudston and their families, as well as other family and many many friends.
Family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 Thursday evening at the St. Charles Parish Church, St. Charles, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM, Friday, December 31, 2021 at the St. Charles Parish with interment following in the St. Charles Cemetery.
