COUNCIL BLUFFS VETERAN DEAD

Daniel B. Kirk Dies at Home Hospital of Cancer

Daniel B. Kirk, a Council Bluffs veteran, died at the soldiers home hospital at 5:30 this morning of cancer of the stomach. Mr. Kirk was admitted to the home from Council Bluffs Sept. 8, 1905.

He was born in Washington county, Indiana Feb. 19, 1840, and he enlisted in Company A, Fifteenth United States infantry Jan. 24, 1862 at Winterset. He was discharged Jan 24, 1865 at Lookout Mountain, Tenn.

Mr. Kirk was a widower. He is survived by the following three sons and four daughters; Harvey Kirk, Colorado Springs, Colo., Garfield Kirk, of Texas; and Frank, who is some place in Iowa and Mrs. Laura B. Duvall, Logan; Mrs. Daisy Palmer, and Mrs. Minnie Underwood, of California, and Mrs. Joseph Holden, of Oklahoma.

Mrs. Duvall and her husband are here to attend the funeral which will be held Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the assembly hall. Chaplain Jesse Cole will officiate and the burial will be in the home cemetery.

Transcriber’s note: According to his father’s obituary, the Kirk family came to Madison County in 1851. Daniel appears in Madison County censuses through 1880.
