Winterset, IowaAl Ragan, 77, of Winterset, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 27, 2021 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel with burial at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter. A Celebration of Life will follow from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge (6567 Bloomfield Road, Des Moines).
Howard Albert Ragan was born on June 7, 1944 in Vienna, Missouri, the son of Howard and Flossie (Stewart) Ragan. In 1964, Al married Judy Brown and together they have two children, Howie and Diane. They later divorced. Al joined the Navy in January 1965. He served 3 years and 364 days on the USS Princeton as a Radarman during Vietnam.
Al worked at Dahl’s Foods for 42 years in the bakery as a baker. That is where he met Suzanne. They spent the last 26 ½ years building a life together. In his free time throughout his life, Al enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Al is survived by his girlfriend, Suzanne Scott and her daughter, Elizabeth Schmitz; his children, Howard Ragan (Carol Hope), Diane Quijano, Robert Wingfield, Donnie Wingfield, and Betty Snyder; brother, Earl (Helen) Ragan; and 40 some grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Donald, Robert and Dave.
