Susan, daughter of George and Barbara Yager, was born in Pennsylvania, Nov. 1, 1829 and died in Barney, Iowa, March 18, 1912, aged 83 years, 4 months and 17 days. She was united in marriage to Harry Gardner in Nov. 1852. To this union thirteen children were born, four died in infancy. Sabina Read, a daughter, died July 2, 1911, Julia died Nov. 2, 1892 and the husband passed away July 4, 1908. One daughter and six sons survive her. They are Mrs. Emma Adamson, John E., Samuel H., George M., Fred H., William A., and Charles D.

The family settled near Barney in 1869. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church in her youth and lived a Christian life to the end.

On account of the snow storm of Wednesday last, no regular services was held as planned. The funeral was conducted by Rev. C. W. Proctor of the Lorimor M.E. church, and interment was made in the Barney cemetery.
