Bonnie M. Arnburg, 81 of Waukee formerly of Earlham passed away peacefully on Monday, November 22, 2021 at Independence Village in Waukee. Funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, November 27th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Earlham. Visitation will begin at 9 A.M. until the time of the service. Burial will be held at Penn Center Cemetery with a luncheon following at the Dexter American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Dexter American Legion Auxiliary.
Bonnie was born on October 31, 1940 to Merle and Martha Nellis. She grew up outside of Earlham and attended Earlham Schools and later DMACC. She worked at the Waukee Auto Sales, Earlham Schools, Madison County Bridge Gift Shop and was a census taker; but most of her career was spent at the Des Moines Register where she retired after 29 years. On February 14, 1969 she was united in marriage to Max Arnburg at the Earlham Friends Church. The family made their home in Earlham and later Ankeny before purchasing the Nellis Farm where they built a new home. Her last years were spent at Independence Village in Waukee where she made many friends over the years.
Bonnie was a member of the Earlham Friends Church, Faith Lutheran Church in Adel and a 50 year member of the Dexter American Legion Auxiliary. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, playing bingo and cards, Wii bowling, Farkle, and most of all spending time with her family especially during the holidays.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Martha Nellis; husband, Max; longtime companion, Charles Craigmile; and brother-in-law, Clarence Johnson.
She leaves behind her children: Gwendolyn (Randall) Applegate, Sharon (Monty) Davis, Thomas (Beverly) Atkins and David (Deb) Atkins; stepchildren: Gary (Sheri) Arnburg, David (Candace) Arnburg, Larry (Patti) Arnburg, Terry Nervig and Richard (Gayle) Arnburg; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Howard (Roselea) Nellis; sister, Winnifred Johnson; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends all of whom will miss her dearly.
