Marilyn Louise King was born on October 12, 1928, on a farm north of Grant City, Missouri to William Donn King and Vergge Hope (Mosbarger) King. She attended grade school in Grant City and rode her horse to school. The family eventually moved, and she graduated high school in Merced, California. After high school, she graduated from Northwest Missouri State College with degrees in business education and home economics education. Marilyn taught school for a few years prior to meeting her future husband, Glen Patience. Marilyn met Glen’s mother, Talitha, at an evening community class that Marilyn instructed at the Dexter high school. Two years later, a friend that sang in the church choir with Glen asked Marilyn if she would like to meet a real nice young man. The two started dating in 1952. They were united in marriage on June 6, 1954 at the Blockton Christian Church. She continued to work as a teacher for another year, but eventually departed to help Glen on the farm.

Marilyn liked helping Glen on the farm by walking beans, packing lunches, and managing the farm finances. She loved to entertain family and friends in her home. She enjoyed having many guests at her table and fed them well. Hospitality was her specialty and she put much care, thought, and effort into each gathering. Marilyn was a fantastic planner and designer. She designed and sewed her own wedding dress as well as her children’s clothes when they were young. She also drew the blueprint for a brick, ranch style, farmhouse that she and Glen built together.

Marilyn liked to travel and vacation with her family. Planning family vacations usually revolved around wherever her sister lived at the time, so the family could get together. She and Glen enjoyed traveling to many places such as Hawaii, Alaska, much of the continental United States, and Europe. Marilyn was also a fan of attending the Iowa State Fair every summer and enjoyed the many amenities this event had to offer.

Marilyn was strong in her faith. She and Glen were longtime members of the Dexter United Methodist Church. She was very involved and participated in many church activities and events.

Marilyn and Glen were very devoted to one another throughout their lives; compensating daily for each other's fragilities and enhancing each other’s strengths. Marilyn's life was a testimony to love and her faith in God.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Glen; and parents, William (Bill) and Vergge.

She is survived by her two sons, Donn (Donna) Patience and John (Kim) Patience; five grandchildren, Andrew (Maegen) Patience, Bradley Patience, Kelsey (Ben) Striegel, Josh (Jenni) Patience and Jared Patience; great grandchildren, Bentley Striegel and Kennedy Striegel; sister Chloris Ann Van Nice; sister-in-law, Berneita Patience; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
