Judy Kay Yates, 75, Carrier Mills, Ill., passed away early Monday morning, Aug. 2, 2021, at her residence.
Judy was born Sept. 3, 1945, in Omaha, Neb., to the late James W. "Billy" and Barbara Helen (Wolland) Parks. She was united in marriage to Marvin Yates on May 1, 1966, and he survives. Together they shared 55 years of marriage.
Judy grew up in Earlham, Iowa, where she attended school and graduated from Earlham High School with the class of 1965. Se worked at the Earlham cafe during and following high school.
Following their marriage, Judy and Melvin moved to Carrier Mills, Ill., where she leaves a lifetime of love and memories with her friends and family. She will be remembered for her love of cooking and doing crafts. She especially loved scrapbooking and collecting recipes.
She was a long time member of the Carrier Mills Social Brethren Church where she was an organizing member of the church's ladies group and she helped with many activities of the church. One of her favorite activities was working in the organization's church camp each summer where she served as the head cook for many years.
The couple owned and operated J&M cleaning service until their retirement. They also had a radio program called "The Happy Family Hour", which aired in the 1980s.
Funeral Service was held at noon on Thursday, Aug. 5, with Rev. Charles Curry and Rev. Jerry Wells officiating. Burial was in the Salem Cemetery in Carrier Mills.
